PASTOR JOHN COLLINS: MEDIATOR

Pastor John Collins: Disconnected Faith

“And when they say to you, ‘Seek those who are mediums and wizards, who whisper and mutter,’ should not a people seek their God? Should they seek the dead on behalf of the living?” Isaiah 8:19 (NKJV).
“Jesus said to them, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6 (NKJV).

Have you ever heard someone say that they are praying to their dead grandmother for strength? It is not only a Catholic thing but it is a complete disconnect in a person’s faith and disobedience to God that leads people to reach out in prayer to their dead relatives, to the ‘saints’ of the church and especially to Mary the mother of Jesus Christ. Let me be very clear, Mary, the mother of Jesus is NOT the mediator of your faith and to pray to her is the same as praying to any other dead person. Jesus Christ is the way to get to the Father and it is through Him that you must pray.

You have been given a mediator in Jesus who was beaten, rejected and hung on a tree for the sins of the world. You have been instructed on how to approach God in prayer in the name of Christ. There is no way around this rule and there are no exceptions, even for His mother or the so-called saints or for any of your dead relatives. None of those people will help you, none of those people are able to provide you with anything and none of those people have the approval of God to stand as a mediator for you.

Do you think that God takes it lightly that so many ‘Christians’ ignore the words of His Son every day and are praying in the name of so many others? It is not something to think of casually. Your prayers are your communication with God and your faith is strengthened by your prayers. God does listen to the prayers of the faithful and the prayers of those whose hearts genuinely seek to worship Him in spirit and truth. Be serious in your prayers as that is the way that you approach God. Think of the holiness of the tabernacle and how so very few could actually come close. Think of the instructions to Israel about the holiness of God and how He must be worshipped. Jesus is now the mediator of your faith and it is necessary to approach both Jesus and God with reverence and awe. Do not be casual in your faith, in your prayers or in your attitude about God and Jesus Christ. Take your faith seriously so that you are able to enter through the narrow gate. Pray as the Lord has instructed you and do not turn to the right or to the left.

“My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world. Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, ‘I know Him,’ and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.” 1 John 2:1-4 (NKJV).

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS: DESPAIR

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS: LIVING LIFE

“Cursed be the day in which I was born! Let the day not be blessed in which my mother bore me!” Jeremiah 20:14 (NKJV).

Pastor John Collins: Sometimes it is hard to hold onto what
you cannot see
Who has not felt despair pulling on their world that seems to outweigh any hope that may exist? This life is full of ugly truths and disappointing days that will rip your heart out if you let it. There are valleys and shadows of a darkness that is uncompromising. People who find themselves at low points may turn to substances, whether prescription or illegal or over the counter in order to dull their pain and put off the agony of reality. It is at these low times when you feel as though you have nothing to hang on to, nothing to live for and nothing to pull you out of the darkness that faith is most important. For some, it is these dark spaces that create faith and for others it is the place that creates the doubt that challenges one’s faith. Sometimes it is hard to hold on to what you cannot see.

The human spirit is amazingly resilient. We are tougher than we realize. The truth is that there will come a time or many times in a person’s life that will leave you low and wanting to curse not only the world but your place in it. We are created with a great capacity to feel great emotions both high and low and we are capable of great compassion for each other and need to find the ability to have compassion for ourselves, not in any superficial or selfish way but in a way that allows us to let God into our hearts in order to be healed by Him. We need to choose to not allow pain to overwhelm us when we will be confronted with pain every day, whether or not that pain is our own personally or collectively. You see, when there is hurt in this world we need to make an even greater effort to love more. The more that we can genuinely love, beginning with loving God, who in turn allows us to love ourselves, not selfishly but with compassion and the ability to forgive ourselves so that we don’t go on punishing ourselves for past mistakes, bad choices or tragedies that we internalize and take on guilt for and that allows us to be able to love others with sincerity and truth. We have to be able to see the big picture as well as the little picture at the same time. Not only do we need to realize that God does have a plan and that He has not forgotten us nor forsaken us but know your life matters, what you do and who you love matters and that love needs to allow for forgiveness, acceptance and hope to shine through the darkness.

Pastor John Collins: "Do not grow bitter for having known the
darkness because without it you could appreciate the light"

If you have not experienced pain of the soul that sucks the breath right out of you then you have not lived. If you have not stood back and felt awe for the world we live in then you have not awakened to the truth of God. The entire human experience will bring both despair and joy beyond imagination and knowing both allows you to be a better person and a person of compassion and truth. God is good and will not leave you alone. Do not grow bitter for having known the darkness because without it you could not appreciate the light.

“Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassion's fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, therefore I hope in Him!’” Lamentations 3:22-24 (NKJV).

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS: SEE-SAW CHRISTIAN

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS: BACKSLIDING

“For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them.  But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: ‘A dog returns to his own vomit,’ and, ‘a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.’” 2 Peter 2:20-22 (NKJV).

Ah, the backslider, those slippery paths, that jumbled mess of a highway system that has him lost, confused and picking that well-traveled road. The see-saw of the decided Christian then the undecided Christian who misses the fun and back and forth.

There has been a weakening of the term backslider for the Christian. Backsliding should not be taken lightly and although God is merciful and compassionate, God is also not stupid and is very aware of the desires of your heart and the choices that you make based on them. You cannot claim to be a Christian on Sunday and having been out drinking and whoring on Saturday night think that you are pleasing God in any way. God knows if you are genuine in your faith or not. God knows if you are truly committed to becoming righteous and God knows if you are genuinely working toward accomplishing that goal. Once you choose to be a Christ follower you should do so with a complete heart without turning from that choice.

Christians should not be casual in their faith and lazy in their efforts to claim their place in heaven. You are not guaranteed tomorrow so you should never wait to seek the Lord and you should never be complacent in your faith. Never take backsliding with a casual attitude but be forceful in your determination to see your life through with obedience to the Lord. What do you think the Christian faith would look like today if Paul had gotten lazy and inconsistent in his pursuit of doing the Lord’s will? It is necessary to claim consistency in your walk with God.

“But Jesus said to him, ‘No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.’” Luke 9:62 (NKJV).

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS: FREELY OFFERED

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS: WHEN NO ONE IS LOOKING...

“Now Jesus sat opposite the treasury and saw how the people put money into the treasury. And many who were rich put in much. Then one poor widow came and threw in two mites, which makes a quadrans. So He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury; for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood.’” Mark 12:41-44 (NKJV).

You cannot only be a Christian when things are going good in your life and you cannot only be a Christian towards those whom you like and approve of. The whole point of being a Christian is to be Christ-like and believe me, Jesus was kind to those whom He knew to be sinners and those whom He would not approve of, which is the reason that He was sent to earth, to save those who were lost. Jesus gave all that He had down to His last breath, for us.

Many people take their own lives and situations too seriously and become defensive and ignore those who are around them. Many people justify their self-absorption by claiming tragedy, turmoil, victimhood and obligations. You cannot justify acting nasty or dismissive to others because you are not in a comfortable situation or in a place of stability. God tests you on how you behave under pressure, under stress and in the tough situations. God tests you all of the time and if you really are interested in how you are doing, just go and read the Sermon on the Mount and see how you measure up.

The words of Christ when He spoke are not to be dismissed, they are to be obeyed and that is how you will be tested. God doesn’t want you to wait until you are happy and financially stable to help another. It is your suffering that makes you able to have compassion and it is your willingness to put another before yourself that makes you rich.

Be willing to be a follower of Christ when no one is looking and be willing to open yourself up to another when they are in need. Not everyone needs money as charity. There are so many lonely people in this world that need love and faith. Be willing to offer both freely because God knows that Jesus always will.

“Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have the glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.” Matthew 6:2 (NKJV).

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS: ANTI-BIBLICAL

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS: HUMILITY NOT PRIDE OF LIFE

“And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” Galatians 5:24-25 (NKJV).

God is not a genie who grants wishes.
Name it and claim it! There are many churches out there that have been peddling the law of attraction for some time now. There are many Christians that see no harm in a visualization board, affirmation clippings and scrapbooks of hopes that are created, kept and prayed over. What is wrong with picturing a better life for yourself, creating a visual focal point so that you can put out into the world your hopes and dreams and create for yourself the life that you desire? Many believe that you can state your claims out loud to God and He will answer your heart’s desire. That is your will, not His. As much grace as God is willing to provide, He is not in the business of granting wishes like some genie in the sky.

The challenge of being a true Christian in this life is to deny the passions of your flesh. That is what you fight against. Your flesh wants nice things, joy and happiness above all and most of all it wants validation for your importance and existence. People want success and recognition for their efforts and they want the paycheck that goes along with it. There are many that say to live your life to the fullest, claim your reward, allow God to do more for you than you realize was possible. God is in the business of saving souls, not making your dreams come true. God desires humility and not pride of life. People want to try this and that to make their lives better but do not even see when those things are anti-biblical because people don’t know the word of God.

God saves SOULS!  The gospel needs to be redeemed
This name it and claim it nonsense is of the new age church. There are many churches today that are introducing and blending pagan ideas and activities into their church, whether they realize it or not, which are contrary to true faith and genuine worship of the Father and the Son. Be careful of the influences that you allow into your life, your church and especially your home. Many Christians don’t know about the occult and those practices which makes it hard to rebuke when it enters your life and there are many of these that seem harmless enough but in reality all they do is undermine your beliefs. God has been fighting the evil practices since the beginning and many cannot see that it is nothing new but it is just updated and repackaged for this generation. Paganism and idolatry is an abomination to the Lord and you must be cautious and aware in what you allow to have influence over you. Hold tight to the doctrine of truth and let humility rule your life.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.” Galatians 5:22 (NKJV).

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS: SIGNS

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS: CHANGE IS COMING

“And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.” John 3:19-21 (NKJV).

There is true evil in this world. We can look around and see it. Many people would like to ignore it, not be bothered by it, not have it touch their lives and just go about their business. Sometimes evil intrudes and we are shocked, hurt and want to question if there is a God at all. If God is so powerful, why does He allow bad things to happen? That is always a question for those who would deny that there is a God and would claim that if there wasa God at all then He must not care about us and must not be all good as those who believe in His say. God gave men free will to live and choose to behave as they would have it and for that reason there will always be evil in this world. Evil is just selfish desires and power grabs manifested in this world. Evil is those choosing to lash out at others because of their own hurt. Evil is defiance and rebellion acted out in order to lift oneself up. Evil is petty and there will come a time when God chooses to step in and bring about further revelation to this world.

Pastor John Collins: Prayer is powerful
Some wait for God to act and some want to ignore the signs but while there is still yet time we should be praying for more light to shine in the darkness. Prayer is a powerful thing and God wants to hear from us, not just about our lives, our desires, our sicknesses and needs, our family and friends but about our hopes and thoughts regarding this world. Do you consider praying about those who suffer, the abused men, women and children? Do you pray for the weak? Do you pray that those who protect us are themselves protected? Do you pray that righteousness would make its way into the government? Do you pray that foreign nations would be strengthened in food and health to limit the depletion of your own country? Do you pray that revelation would come from God that would minimize the desire to blow each other up? There are people whose only desire is for more power, more money, more weapons and the opportunity to display it all for the world to see. There is evil in this world because some only care about themselves and they don’t value life or the gifts that come with it.

Pastor John Collins: Prayer changes things
What so many have forgotten, failed to realize or choose to ignore is that the only true power in this world comes from God alone and all of the rest is an illusion. God is the one who has all of the strength and He really does want us to make the best choices available to us and sometimes people just don’t know what that is. Changing things in this world can start with hope and prayer. Change does need to come, more light needs to permeate the dark and more people need to wake up to the reality that things are changing and we need to change as well. We need more righteousness in this world, not more rebellion. Pray for that.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 (NKJV).

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS: PRIDE

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS:  GRACE TO THE HUMBLE

“Then a dispute arose among them as to which of them would be greatest. And Jesus, perceiving the
thought of their heart, took a little child and set him by Him, and said to them, ‘Whoever receives this little child in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me receives Him who sent Me. For he who is least among you all will be great.’” Luke 9:46-48 (NKJV).

“Listen, my beloved brethren: Has God not chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?” James 2:5 (NKJV).

Who is worthy to be lifted up? How does God choose those that He would separate and use for His purposes? He chose Abraham and Abraham was considered a friend of God’s. He chose David and David was a man after God’s own heart. He sent His Son who died for us all.

Even those who walked with Jesus thought of themselves and the impact that they would have on this world. This is so wonderful to know that the human instinct to desire to rise above and be great was felt in those men who walked with Christ. This allows us to recognize this in ourselves and work to overcome. They were corrected and they learned what true humility is. They witnessed their Lord humble Himself to the Cross. Yet there are so many that want to be great in the name of the Lord. They call attention to themselves and think highly of themselves. But, God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble. Believe me when I tell you that God knows what He is doing and He knows our hearts.

God has no use for pride. God does not want servants that think highly of themselves and their eligibility. God wants people to serve Him that are humble of heart. When we choose to walk with Jesus it should be with a pure heart and a true devotion to obedience to the Lord. We should never seek our own. We should not care what others think of us. We should be concerned only with whether we are an asset to the kingdom of God or a burden. If we have selfish ambition in our heart and a desire to stand out and be important, we are seeking status in this life and we are then unworthy to be a true servant of the Lord.

We must be careful when we desire to leave a name for ourselves, to want to be recognized for our importance or to be valued among men. A truly worthy person that will serve God well is a person that has no ambition in his heart. This person thinks of salvation when he looks upon the souls of this world. This person has sadness in his heart because of the condition of the human race. This person worries of the state of other’s faith in their lives. This person considers opportunities to share the gospel and help others come to Jesus. This person wants to see others go to heaven and lives his life as an example. This person will sacrifice and find ways to be a light in a world of dark.                                                                                                                            This person will please God.

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
For they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
For they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
For they shall be filled.” Matthew 5:3-6 (NKJV)

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS: HELL IS REAL

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS: HELL-IT'S A CHOICE

“If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed, rather than having two hands, to be cast into hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched-where ‘their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.’” Mark 9:43-44 (NKJV).

Mark 9:43 Jesus preaches Hell
Jesus goes on to say the same of your foot and your eye, which if it were to cause you to sin, you should cut it off or pluck it out. That is a brutal truth that is said in order to make the hearer and the reader realize just how important it is for a person to seek to be obedient to God in this life and to not sin. It is also very important for every person living to realize the absolute truth of hell, that it is a place of torment and those that are judged worthy of deserving hell, do indeed go there and everyone who does go there will be there for eternity and the suffering will never stop.

That is not what people want to hear. It is fire and brimstone preaching that our grandparents listened to but we don’t want to hear it, right? There are even many so-called Christians who refuse to accept that existence of hell and have chosen instead to delude themselves and say that “their God” would never create a place of eternal torment and that “their God” is a loving God who would never hurt His children and that means that hell is just being separate from the presence of God, or it is just a metaphor, or it is symbolic of some other state in which we may find ourselves during life or temporarily after death but it is not eternal nor is it a final judgment of torture. That is just wrong thinking and as much as people do not want to hear it or accept the truth of it, hell is real, just as heaven is real.

A choice of good and bad since the beginning
You cannot have one without the other. There was the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the Garden of Eden and that means that there has been the choice of good and bad since the beginning. Yes, all that we do in life is a choice and it all leads to the ultimate day of reckoning for everyone. There will be a time in which all will matter and will determine where you spend eternity. Are you going to be forever in heaven or in hell? Are your choices selfish ones, are your choices made with God and His will in mind and do you believe in the truth of the righteousness and truth of God, in the sacrifice of Jesus and in the available to you, through faith? These are things that you need to be aware of as you go through the day to day activities of your life, as you grow up, get a job, get married, have and raise children and do your best to be a person that can look yourself in the mirror in the morning and feel good about. Could you sit down with God and have a conversation knowing that He knows every single thought and feeling you have ever had and knows every single thing you have ever done alone and with every single person you have ever come into contact with? Could you honestly sit down with God and trust that you have done all that you could to obey Him and not sit there justifying your life?

Don’t waste what time you have been given with denials that are only good to serve your own disobedience. God will not give up on you and you should not give up on you but you must know that you are only given a very limited amount of time here on earth.  You should live that life with purpose knowing that your priorities will indeed have you sitting down with God one day so that you don’t have to live with regret while suffering the torments of the damned for all eternity.

“For everyone will be seasoned with fire, and every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt. Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavor, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another.” Mark 9:49-50 (NKJV).

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS: CHURCH SHOULD TEACH!!!

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS: boring church?!!

Church should be inspired by GOD teaching! Not boring.
“Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.” 2 Timothy 4:2 (NKJV).

It does not take a person of great mental gymnastics to recognize the reason that charismatic preachers and musical ministers have claimed the hearts of so many ‘Christians’. Traditional church with traditional preachers equals boring church that families have been members of that only have their doors still open due to obligatory ‘respect and allegiance’. Traditional church is a snooze-fest!!!!

Church should be led by a pastor who is filled with the Holy Spirit and is inspired in their teaching of the word of God. Church should TEACH you how to apply the gospel to your life and why!!! Church should not be a concert, a motivational speaking class, a boring sermon recited by a boring pastor or a boring lesson with readings from the bible that are not applicable or relevant to your life.

The bible teaches you how to live your life, the gospel teaches you that Jesus Christ died for you and He teaches you that you must obey Him to claim the reward of heaven. Church should be a wakeup call for you to recognize your sin and to evaluate your choices in life. Church should be about teaching you to love Jesus and worship Him and the Father.

Times Square Church, founded by David Wilkerson
Boring traditional church does not claim the attention of our children and by making this experience a part of their Sunday is not helping them become true followers of Christ. You would be better off keeping them home, spending an hour reading some scriptures and talking about why it matters to obey God, why it matters to remain pure and why it matters that they should not approve of the filth in the world nor partake of the bounty thereof. Exciting music and inspirational speakers are another influence that lacks the reverence of God, the seriousness of worship and makes the gospel shallow.

Music is wonderful to worship with as long as the preaching is full of substance and godly wisdom and is the focus of the service. When seeking a church be picky and be aware of whether your children are sitting there in bored silence because you say they must or if they are paying attention and for that matter, how are you feeling about the service yourself? Just because something is traditional does not mean that it is what will guide your soul into heaven.

“You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” 2 Timothy 2:1-2 (NKJV).

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS: 23-HOUR CHRISTIANITY

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS: BUFFET CHRISTIANITY?

“Now Jesus sat opposite the treasury and saw how the people put money into the treasury. And many who were rich put in much. Then one poor widow came and threw in two mites, which makes a quadrans. So He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, 'Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury; for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood.’” Mark 12: 41-44 (NKJV).

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS: GOD AND WOMEN

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS: GOD VALUES WOMEN

“Jesus said to her, ‘Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.’ Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that He had spoken these things to her.” John 20:16-18 (NKJV).

Pastor John Collins: A role of strength and dignity

Pastor John Collins:  Mary Magdalene believed in Jesus, sought Him out, anointed Him with oil, wept on His feet and wiped those feet with her hair. Mary sat at the feet of Jesus, learned from Him and was a disciple of His. Mary was the one that Jesus chose to see first after He was resurrected. Mary was brave and humble when she went to Him in that house of the Pharisee as she cared not what others thought of her, nor spoke of her but cared only to go to Jesus and kiss His feet and seek His forgiveness and His acceptance and Jesus not only gave that forgiveness, accepted her love for Him but spoke that she would be remembered for her actions and He demonstrated her value when He chose to go to Mary first and to give her the honor of knowing He was alive and to relate that information along with her witness of Him to his brethren.

It took courage to follow Jesus during His ministry and it took faith to know Him as the Son of God. Mary had that courage and had great faith in her Lord. There were dark centuries that followed the beginnings of the Christian faith. There have been centuries of oppression of not only the uneducated but of women as well. Women have come a long way from the days of the dark ages, of the days of education denial (for many parts of the world, anyway), and from the denial of equality of the genders. Women push forward in their search for that equality and for the opportunities to make their mark in this world but I want to remind women that their mark has been made and has never been taken for granted by God. God values women and Jesus demonstrated the love that He had for Mary by going to her first, by teaching her and standing up for her. Women should never forget that their value begins in the home, for they are the caretakers, the bringers of life and the mothers of our children. Do not underestimate the value of those things as being a mother allows you to teach your children how to get to heaven, how to live boldly and with faith in this dark world and being a wife allows you to help your husband be a part of a family that relies on God. A woman’s role does not have to be one thing or another but it should always be a role of strength and dignity with love and compassion at its core. That is the love of God within you and God has provided women with the complex ability to keep a family together and to guide it in love and faith with trust and truth at its center.

Pastor John Collins: Heaven is waiting, families need strong women to guide them

There always seems to be an agenda on the table and as progress ticks away and women continue to fight for what they believe to be most important to them I can only hope that they remember to value what has always belonged to them from the beginning. Family is everything and while equal pay may seem to be the biggest priority to some this world seems to be allowing the family to fail. Industrial success will never replace the failures of our homes and women need to find the courage, like Mary, to believe in our Savior and to brave the opinions of others to declare their loyalty to Him as they live up to the great responsibilities that have been entrusted to them. It is not easy to choose faith over finances, faith over popularity, faith over apparent success or faith over personal gain but in the end heaven is waiting and families need strong women to guide them.

“And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell.  But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15 (NKJV)

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS: THE CONSEQUENCES OF TAKING PRAYER OUT OF SCHOOL

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS: THE DOWNFALL OF A NATION

Introduction by Pastor John Collins, Evangelist:

This post was originally written over 5 years ago, since then, our country has continued its downhill fall.  With the event of more deaths in schools in 2018 than in the military*, it's time for a change, it's time for a new beginning-Pastor John Collins, Evangelist (May, 2018).

There have been many changes that have gone on in our nation over the years. One of the most important change is not a good change...and that is the lack of God in our lives. We have stood by as Christians and allowed religion and prayer to be taken out of school. Take a look back over the last 40 or 50 years and see what has become of our nation since that has happened. If you are up for a long read, take a look at this paper written about prayer taken out of school.  It is extremely interesting, true and very accurate. If you are a Christian, what you are about to read should make you want to make change.

Consequences of Taking Prayer Out of School

God has been banned from our public schools.  Our Lord Jesus Christ has been expelled from our public schools.  Prayer has been removed from our public schools.  The Holy Bible is no longer welcome in our public schools.  Is it any wonder why we are now living in a society that has forgotten to fear God?  Our children now lack an education that includes the teachings of God and Our Lord Jesus Christ.  By excluding the word of our Lord in school, this country has systematically destroyed the foundation of faith on which it was built.  The consequences are high and will continue to mount.
As Abraham Lincoln said, "The Philosophy of the school room in one generation...will be the Philosophy of the Government in the next." This truth is a tragedy for our nation.  It is apparent that the government does not have the strength or the will to ensure that our children receive the education that they need in order to live God fearing lives that are testimonies to Our Lord Jesus Christ.  Remember what God said to Moses concerning all the people when giving the Commandments, "I the Lord God am a jealous God visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me; and showing mercy to thousands of them that love Me and keep My commandments."  We are teaching our children to become disobedient and disrespectful of God and His Son.  How long will it be before the Wrath of God is unleashed on this nation?

Although this country was founded on Christianity, we have tolerance for all religions.  This religious diversity is one of the reasons that we have found ourselves in this situation of denying God's admittance to public schools.  The government will never advocate one religion over another.  By deliberately choosing to be a country allowing all faiths and choosing none for our own, we have become a nation without God.  As
Patrick Henry wrote, "It cannot be emphasized too clearly and too often that this nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religion, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ.  For this very reason peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here."  This freedom that we have afforded others is what has brought this nation to its current deplorable condition.  It was the demands of the Godless that has weakened the God fearing and turned them from the path of righteousness.  By secularizing the public school system, we have chosen to NOT choose God so that none are offended and Christianity is not forced on anyone.  This is what is considered politically correct according to man's law.  What about God's law?  As Jesus said, "A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.  Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it gives light to all that are in the house.  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works  and glorify your Father which is in heaven."  Where are the works that glorify God to be found in the slap in the face that He and His Son have received from our government with their decision to exclude God, Jesus and the Bible from the schoolroom?  How much are they to take?  We have become a nation of conformists who bow to the demands of faithless citizens to secularize the public schools and strip the fountain of salvation from our children.  At what point will enough be enough?  Jesus said, "Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind.  And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch."  This nation is being led by the blind and is falling into a ditch.  Is this what we want?  We have abandoned God and Our Lord Jesus Christ.  Do we want God and Jesus to do the same?  By secularizing our public schools, this nation is ascribing to and promoting atheism.  If you will not declare that you are for God and Christ, you are declaring that you are NOT.  Jesus said, "Whosoever therefore shall confess Me before men, him will I confess also before My Father which is in heaven."  Jesus also said, "He that is not with Me is against Me; and he that gathers not with Me scatters abroad."  By deliberately choosing to NOT choose a religion, this nation's government is denying God and Christ.  By refusing to allow public schools to study the bible, worship and pray, the students are being denied access to their God and their Savior while they are attending school.  Schools were not designed to keep religion out.

When it came time to create public schools in America, most were founded on faith.  Of the first 126 colleges, 123 were Christian.  Harvard College was founded by John Harvard primarily as a religious school to train clergy in the Christian faith.  In 1690, Connecticut Law passed that children be taught to read so they can read Holy Scriptures.  In 1690, the First New England Primer was published with Bible verses teaching the alphabet and included children's prayers, The Lords Prayer and the Ten Commandments.  This book was used in schoolrooms until 1900.  This was how school in America began.  It was important to put God first.  The leaders of the community and those that chose to open institutions to educate the children had their priorities right.  All educational material was Bible based.  Bibles themselves were used as textbooks.
In a letter "To the citizens of Philadelphia: A Plan for Free Schools", March 28, 1787, Benjamin Rush wrote, "Let the children who are sent to those schools be taught to read and write above all, let both sexes be carefully instructed in the principles and obligations of the Christian religion.  This is the most essential part of education."  This dedication to ensuring that our children be instructed on the precepts of God and the gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ has been eradicated from our society.  We make the choice as people, as parents and as a nation what is significant to us.  We have chosen to disregard our faith, its importance in our lives and the impact that it will make on our children's lives.  We have chosen to forget our God.

There have been three Supreme Court rulings that took place in the 1960's that changed our public school system and have had detrimental results on our children and our nation.  In 1962, the Supreme Court ruled that children may not recite a state written prayer in school (Engel v. Vitale).  Children could no longer call upon the Lord to bless their day, their school, their parents nor their teachers at the beginning of their day.  In 1963, the Supreme Court also ruled to ban Bible reading in public schools (Abington Township School District v. Schempp).  These rulings collectively eliminated God, Our Lord Jesus Christ and the Bible from our education and have denied our children access to God and their Savior throughout the day.  Jesus said, "Allow the little children come to me,  and forbid  them not: for of such is the kingdom of God."  By banishing God, Jesus and prayer from school, we have directly disobeyed our Lord.  We are deliberately encouraging atheism and creating for ourselves a Godless nation.  In 1980, the Supreme Court ruled that the Ten Commandments cannot be posted in classrooms (Stone v. Graham).  The Supreme Court has even ruled on whether or not to continue to include the words, "One Nation under God", in our Pledge of Allegiance.  The Supreme Court upheld that decision in 2004.  Yet, whether or not a student is required to recite the Pledge of Allegiance is determined state to state.  This recitation is a simple verse said by students at the beginning of the day that should set forth a positive and thankful outlook for that day.  Those who proposed the removal of this form the daily procedures of the classroom were seeking to eradicate the presence of God within the classroom.  The Pledge of Allegiance is the only remnant of God in our public classrooms today.

Our educational curriculum is focused on Math, English, History, Social Studies, Science and many electives.  We have created an education for our children that will allow them to successfully gain employment.  We have taken our discoveries in science and used them to disprove the history of our origins.  We have willfully chosen atheism and practical knowledge over the truth.  We are now attending school for longer periods than ever before in history.  We are furthering our education and enabling ourselves to obtain better paying jobs so that we may consider ourselves successful in life.  Yet, as a whole we are failing not only ourselves but our children as well.
As one of the Founding Fathers, Thomas Paine wrote, "The evil that has resulted from the error of the schools, in teaching natural philosophy as an accomplishment only, has been that of generating in the pupils a species of atheism.  Instead of looking through the works of creation to the Creator himself, they stop short, and employ the knowledge they acquire to create doubts of his existence.  They labour with studied ingenuity to ascribe every thing they behold to innate properties of matter, and jump over all the rest by saying, that matter is eternal."  It has become common to doubt the existence of God and to use science to prove that He does not exist.  This nation has become populated with haters of God.  The educational curriculum that is being taught is a contributor to atheism.  Religion is not supposed to be a component of our public school system, yet atheism is a recognized religion it is being forced on our children.  There are years that our children are required to attend school and are spent in the classroom.  It is painful and depressing to think of all of the years that are lost to God and Jesus.  All of these years are going by with absolutely no focus on the word of God and His Commandments.  Remember Jesus' words, "It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come!  It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones."  Our children have been hurt in the most detrimental way.  The little ones have been deprived of what has always been theirs to begin with; God and Jesus Christ.  They have been denied access to the salvation of their souls and have been encouraged to become disobedient to God and in danger of perishing.

Some may argue that it is right to worship God on your own time.  Some may say that it is the responsibility of the family to instill faith into their own children.  Some may even say that it is not the responsibility of the state nor should the state be permitted to assist in teaching about religion or influencing a child concerning religion.  With the amount of time that a child spends away from home at school, there is no bigger influence on that child as the information they gather there from books, teachers and other children.  There is the argument that there is no way of knowing the truth about what religion is the right one and what religion will lead you to heaven.  That is nonsense.  You know the truth when you read it, and the Holy Bible is the truth.  Alexander Hamilton wrote, "I have carefully examined the evidences of the Christian religion, and if I was sitting as a juror upon its authenticity I would unhesitatingly give my verdict in its favor.  I can prove its truth as clearly as any proposition ever submitted to the mind of man."  To believe one word of the Holy Bible is to believe them all.  To deny one word is to deny them all.  You cannot be a Christian at home and an atheist at school.  Yet, this is what we are demanding of our children.  As Moses instructed the people of Israel on obedience to God's law, he said, "And you shall teach them your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lay down, and when you rise up."  They were not instructed to be conscious of God and His law only some of the time.  They were told to be aware of God all of the time.  They were told to teach their children of the laws of God.  These laws are the Ten Commandments that were removed from the public school room in 1980.
When the people of Israel stood before God in Horeb, God said to Moses, "Gather Me the people together, and I will make them hear My words, that they may learn to fear Me all the days that they shall live upon the earth and that they may teach their children." This is the education that Our Father wants the children to be taught.  We are harming our youth with every step that has been taken to deny them a foundation of faith that coincides with the curriculum that they are learning.  As Noah Webster said, "Education is useless without the Bible."  Truer words have not been spoken.

With the removal of God from our public schools, there has been an increase in abhorrent behavior by our children.  There has been an increase of drugs, alcohol and violence in schools.  There have been numerous shootings on school grounds by children.  There has been an increase in teen pregnancy, rape, and assaults.  There has been an increase of bullying to the point of harassment and resulting in suicides.  Foul language and disrespect flows from the mouths of children and is common not only during school but also at home with their parents.  There is a lack of respect of authority and parents alike.  There is a prevalence of lust and greed among our children.
There is a lack of morals among our children and most disappointing there is a complete lack of self respect among our children.  They are committing crimes and harming their bodies with their choices ever day.  The Bible states, "What? Know you not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which you have of God, and you are not your own?  For you are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's."  Our children do not know this because they have not been taught this.  They do not obey the third commandment  stating, "You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain:  for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that takes His name in vain."  They do not obey the fifth commandment stating, "Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you."  They do not obey the sixth commandment stating, "You shall not kill."   They do not obey the tenth commandment stating, "Neither shall you covet."  The children of today's society are for the most part rude and disrespectful as well as abusers of themselves and others.  Their SAT scores have dropped and they are not as dedicated to their education.  They have not been taught what is important and that is to fear God.  Remember Jesus said, "But I will forewarn you whom you shall fear:  Fear Him, which after He has killed has the power to cast into hell; yea, I say to you, Fear Him."  All of the violence, substance abuse, verbal filth, sexual misconduct and disrespect can be avoided.  Children can be taught to behave differently, to think differently, to believe differently and to have a different destination upon death.  All it takes is the Holy Bible.  We must care enough to want to teach them.

The Bible is the manual on which we should base our lives.  Within its covers lie a very simple and complete set of instructions that have been given to us from God on how he wants us to live our lives.  The word of God is eternal.
Time cannot diminish the value of the word, it cannot take away the truth of the gospel, nor can it justify our intentional disobedience.  As Jesus said, " You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.  This is the first and great commandment.  And the second is like to it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself."  It is easy to observe that this nation is not comprised of God fearing people nor God fearing children.  The fault lies with the parents and the government.  As a parent, it is your responsibility to teach your children how to have eternal life.  For the salvation of their souls, children need to be taught early to love God and Our Lord Jesus Christ.  If you are ambiguous in your beliefs, your child will not have a solid foundation on which to build their own.  As a governing body, if you cannot stand for your Lord, you can stand for nothing.  All things are done through the blessings of God and Jesus Christ.  It is apparent that this nation has become a Godless nation.  As one of the Founding Fathers, Benjamin Rush wrote, "I lament that we waste so much time and money in punishing crimes and take so little pains to prevent them...we neglect the only means of establishing and perpetuating our republican forms of government; that is the universal education of our youth in the principles of Christianity by the means of the Bible; for this Divine Book, above all others, constitutes the soul of republicanism."  The Bible is the one true source of the requirements needed to be admitted to heaven.  It should be the goal of each of us to work towards meeting the requirements and teaching our children to do the same.  Remember Jesus' words, "Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.  And whoso shall receive one such little child in My name receives Me."  It is necessary to remember to care for the little ones and teach them of their Savior.  And as an adult it is necessary to remember that Jesus said, "Verily I say to you, Except you be converted, and become as little children, you shall not enter into the kingdome of heaven."  We need to take more care of the education our children and their development into moral beings.

The Holy Bible is filled with historical references of tragedies befalling nations when they turn from God.  There have been many wars, enslavement, chaos in their societies and all manner of famines and diseases.  Our nation is at war not only with other countries but also with itself.  Our communities are plagued with gangs and violence.  We are bombarded with crimes against children in the news.  We are fighting a losing battle to drugs and alcohol.  The people are suffering.  The communities are filled with adults who had an education that was without God, Jesus and the Bible taught to them as children.

We have systematically created a society of immoral adults raising immoral children.  We have lost our way as a nation.  The sad truth is we have become a nation of hypocrites.  We claim to be God fearing Christians, yet there is not any action taken to uphold the commandments of God.  We have grown bold in our arrogance and obsessed with our own power.  Our government has thrown Jesus Christ from the cross and placed themselves in His place.  We have decided that we do not need to adhere to the sacred truths contained within the Bible nor teach our children to fear God.  It is written in the bible, "But the LORD is the true God, He is the living God and an everlasting King: at His wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide His indignation."  We have grown lazy in our faith and disbelieving as a nation of the Wrath of God.  Let us not forget that Jesus said, "You shall not tempt the Lord your God."  There shall come a time when each one of us has to answer for our own words and actions upon this earth.  It may be upon death or it may be within our lifetimes.  The time of judgment is only known by God.  Yet, all things will be accounted for by each person.  This is taught in the Bible and should be taught to our children.  It should be the priority of our lives to educate our youth on their obligations to their God.
As James McHenry, a signer of the Constitution, wrote, "Public utility pleads most forcibly for the general distribution of the Holy Scriptures.  The doctrine they preach, the obligations they impose, the punishment they threaten, the rewards they promise, the stamp and image of divinity they bear, which produces a conviction of their truths, can alone secure to society, order and peace, and to our courts of justice and constitutions of government, purity, stability and usefulness.  In vain, without the Bible, We increase penal laws and draw entrenchments around our institutions.  Bibles are strong entrenchments.  Where they abound, men cannot pursue wicked courses, and at the same time enjoy quiet conscience."  The Bible is not available today in public schools to help educate and enlighten the minds of the children.  The harm that is caused by this will continue to grow and the costs will continue to make themselves known.

The reality is that although the children that attend public schools are being denied access to their Savior and their salvation, nothing will change.  The government has grown confident in its ability to manage this country by imposing man's laws on its citizens.  It has altered the course of this nation that was set upon its conception.  It has forgotten that it was founded on the gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ.  The government has grown weak in its conviction of the truth.  It has conformed to the desires of the faithless and has compromised its strength.  Without God and Our Lord Jesus Christ as a foundation, this nation will eventually fall.  Without our children believing in and obeying the word of the Lord, our future will be dismal at best.  The governing body that chose to remove God from our schools has committed the ultimate folly.  They have removed our saving grace from our children's education.  Remember the words of Jesus, "Did you never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes?  Therefore say I to you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you and given to a nation bringing forth fruits thereof.  And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken:  but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder."

It is awful to contemplate the future of this nation without God and Jesus being returned to our children's curriculum.  It is awful to observe the downfall of a people happen before your eyes.  It is terrible to witness the cost being paid by our children when it all could have been avoided.  It is my prayer and my hope that this country awakens from its sleep to the reality of the destruction that is imminent and makes the changes that are necessary for the mercy of God to fall on us.  When the children of Israel promised to hear God speak to Moses, hear what was said and obey the words of God, He replied, "I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken to you: they have well said all that they have spoken.  O that there were such a heart in them, that they would fear Me, and keep all My commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!"
